30 Paintings In 30 Days 2015 Days 5 and 6

Yesterday I managed to paint, but never got around to posting it here on the blog. It’s a holiday weekend so I am giving myself a pass. I mean, hamburgers, hotdogs, and the end of summer festivities are clearly a big distraction for this pregnant lady! I’m all about the food.

“Two Flamingos” in mixed media, 10×10.

I have fallen back into some kind of blue phase. It’s blue, blue and more blue. I think I might consciously choose some new color schemes next week. One of my problems is I am not painting in my studio right now, but sitting in a rocking chair in our den. Sometimes I am too lazy to get up and go get a new tube of paint. If that isn’t the height of laziness than I don’t know what is. I’m 40 and pregnant so I’m milking it for all it’s worth.

I’m painting while watching TV too. The horror! I know, this is not exactly professional behavior, but sometimes certain things just have to give. Sometimes you have to multitask and if I am ever going to get through all of the seasons of Grey’s Anatomy I have to put some effort into it. Besides, I need something to watch in between episodes of House of Cards because that show scares me more than Dexter.

“Two Giraffes” in mixed media, 11×14.

These giraffes have driven me nuts. To begin with this 11×14 canvas board probably has about 6 paintings on it. I was never happy so I kept adding another layer. Then the giraffe on the left refused to have a normal face. I’ve painted it a dozen times and painted over it a dozen times. Poor thing. I’m calling it quits. The only thing I like about this painting is the mark making. I experimented and I really like the patterns that developed on the giraffe bodies and in the background. I also enjoy how those pink flowers sort of glow. That white flower? I never actually finished it. Who knows, this painting may get an additional layer after all….

I hope you are having a fun-filled and safe Labor Day weekend!

  1. Aww man… now I am hungry for a hot dog! LOL Blue works for me. Blue, blue, blue. I love the hint of layers in this… of course I dig the blue. And I like how they look like they are ready to tango. LOL
