Halloween DIY Share The Love Sunday

Share The Love Sunday this week is all about Halloween DIY (do it yourself) projects. I hope you find some Halloween crafty things you like in this collection. I am really excited about Halloween this year because Tiny-Small is. I mean, she’s going through costume options like a theater major getting ready for her first, professional audition. It’s a mad house around here I tell ya!

I am going to start with this ghost Tiny-Small and I made. See it above in the picture? We got the idea from a craft book that I have had for about 14 years now. Wow. I am getting old. Like I might have been around when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, but I am so old I can’t even remember. Anyway, we made this ghost with some starch and white fabric. If you want the rest of the directions and supply list, you’ll have to buy the book. Don’t blame me. I didn’t make the copyright laws, I just try to follow them the best I can. The book is: Incredibly Awesome Crafts for Kids. That is an affiliate link, but since you can buy the book for one penny I am not sure it even counts. How can they give me 4% of one cent? That’s like magic math to me. My dreams of getting rich are fading fast in the Amazon affiliate light.

Next up: Make some super cool milk jug ghosts to light a path to your house. We live so far out in the boondocks that we don’t even get Trick or Treaters so I am sharing this so I can live through you vicariously. Plus, I think it would be really fun for kids to do. Check out the blog eighteen25 and learn how to make their Spirit Jugs. Then make a couple for me.

Do you want to win the pumpkin carving contest this year? I know I do. Check out this site: Pumpkin Pile for over 100 pumpkin carving patterns to choose from. Seriously, they mean business. They’ve been carving pumpkins since 1985. For those of you old enough to remember, that’s when ” We Built This City” by Starship was blaring on the radio every 10 minutes. I was ten years old. I told you I was old.

There are so many fun and disgusting Halloween food ideas out there right now. I can barely control myself. Want to make food that makes you want to vomit just by looking at it? Or scream with glee (I know how corrupted you are)? Check out this post from last year with a list of nasty looking Halloween foods from Cute Food For Kids: 29 Creepy, Spooky, Scary, Gross and Disgusting Halloween Recipes. The title says it all, really.

Let’s talk costumes. For little blond girls, or big blond girls, or anyone (adult or child, male or female) with a blond wig, there is this brilliant idea from A Party Style: Halloween Costume Series: Coppertone Girl. Hilarious or adorable depending on how much hair you have on your face or how cherub like you are.

Or go as your favorite artist! Check out how Oh Happy Day turned some little kids into Andy Warhol, Frida, and Van Gogh in her post: Little Artist Costumes. Genius!

Got a dog? Check out this BuzzFeed dog costume extravaganza. Don’t check it out if you are hungry. All the top dogs are transformed into food. They had me at bacon: 27 DIY Costume Ideas For Your Pet.

Have a cat? Do not despair! BuzzFeed has one for cats too: 20 Cats Who Deeply Resent Their Halloween Costumes. If you dress your cat up for Halloween I hope you got vaccinated for cat scratch fever first…or just listened to the song at least, or whatever.

I am sure I will have more to say about Halloween this year, but this should be enough to get you started, right? I hope you are as excited as we are! If not, just pretend you are. That works too.

    1. I wish I could send you some milk jugs. Between my husband and daughter we go through two gallons a week. I loved that Frida costume. Step 1: draw your eyebrows together…or just let them grow together. Step 2: Draw on a mini mustache. Step 3: Put a flower in your hair. Voila!

  1. Love that even the dog gets a makeover. I think Halloween is ill fated for us this year. My house contents won’t even arrive until almost two weeks after I do. Yikes.
I’ll have to go big for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

  2. I just realized that I’m gonna have to think of a costume for Zeb, the new family member…though my husband specifically said he didn’t want any namby-pamby costumes for his dog..but that’s exactly why he should have one, right?!! 😛

  3. I don’t even celebrate Halloween anymore – I’m totally a Grinch. Wait…I think that might be the wrong holiday. But, yeah – I’m that lady who hides in her house with all the lights off so that kids don’t ring my doorbell. Just as well, because the way I chow down on the candy, I’d eat it all and have to hand out things like saltines or baby carrots.

    1. It’s like you have the makings of your own Nightmare Before Christmas movie…the Grinch could totally hate Halloween. We live out in the middle of nowhere so we don’t get kids at the door which is a good thing because it would drive my dogs bonkers. We just go into town and annoy all of those nice people!

I’d love to see the kids faces as they pulled baby carrots and saltine crackers out of their loot bags…priceless!

  4. I found the cutest Halloween wreath craft that I’ve been meaning to do – I’m hoping to get to it before next week! I will not be dressing up my dog, though – she wouldn’t stand for it. 😉
