Are you committed to any gratitude practice this month? What are you most thankful for? I have been thinking about this quite a bit over the past week. Today I am grateful for my eyes. Not only have they been good to me, but they are so integral to my work. Without the gift of sight I would have trouble creating art. I’d miss out on all of the colors. I’d miss out on seeing my daughter smile too. When I was in my twenties I met a woman with Macular Degeneration. She was slowly losing her eyesight. She was upbeat and positive about it, but I knew it also frustrated her sometimes. Spending time with her always made me grateful for my ability to see the world. I hope I continue to do so until the day I die. Sometimes we take these seemingly little things for granted, but they are huge. I hope you will take a moment each day this month to consider how lucky you are…even if just to take a breath. Breathing is such an automatic thing that we often don’t think about it. Think about it today. Breathe in and breathe out. Be thankful that you can.

  1. I think about my eyes a lot too when I think of gratitude. Not only because I’ve know people with macular degeneration but even just being born in at a time and in a place where I could have glasses because I can’t even see the E at the top of the chart!

  2. That journal is beautiful. My very best friend has MD and can’t see out of one eye. She loves doing beadwork, reading, making jewelry. All the things you need eyes for. She is grateful everyday she can still see out of one eye.
