English Setter’s are so pretty, aren’t they? I love those long ears. I painted this one using watercolors and liquid acrylic inks. I have a small addiction to the raw umber color in the acrylic ink. It’s transparent and runny. I think it produces dog hair really well. Plus, it’s just a gorgeous brown. I never thought I would use the word gorgeous when referring to brown, but life is full of surprises these days.

Speaking of surprises, I have some exciting news! I contacted a New Mexico Lap Dog rescue organization to ask them if I could paint some of the dogs they have that are waiting to be adopted. They sent me an email last night and said I could. I am really excited because now my dog painting spree will had an added value. I get to raise awareness for some dogs who need good homes. I am a big advocate for rescue dogs because my very first dog was a rescue dog and as I have joked before, Abe was my soul mate. I loved that dog so much. I don’t know if I will ever have that kind of bond with a dog again, but if I do, I am almost positive it will be with a rescue dog.

I’ll probably have a rescue dog painting to share with you on Saturday. As you have probably guessed, my painting a day started a couple of days before the beginning of January because in order to have time to actually write and publish a blog post about it, the painting needs to be finished. This means I have to have a completed painting (at least) by the day before I am going to publish the blog post about it. I am just like a magazine editor over here…sort of. I am like Dog Fancy without all of the ads or real life, trained writers with grammar books in their pockets. I am not doing half bad considering my lack of resources and obvious limitations. Watch out magazine world….

Tomorrow is going to be Great Dane in rainbow bright mode day. Wow, that was a mouthful. Here is a progress shot for you. I thought you might like to see how messy my work table is right now. Actually, everything around here is messy. I gave up my after Christmas cleaning rather quickly this year. I should have made “never clean my house again” as my New Years Resolution. That is a resolution I could get behind.

  1. So adorable with those big eyes. He could also be a Springer Spaniel. And that bird is too cute! I read about your dog and riding in cars. What a sweet story! I should post a new picture of our dog. Maybe for Day 3! :)
