I don’t think I have ever had Thanksgiving in a restaurant, but that is what happened this year. This year we spent Thanksgiving at the Village Inn. The truth is it wasn’t half bad either. No cooking, no cleaning, no eating too much pie and then crying about my pants being too tight. That is practically a tradition around here.
We had to take Jim to the big city for cataract surgery that was scheduled the day before Thanksgiving. On top of that a follow-up appointment was scheduled the day after Thanksgiving – so we just stayed right through. No point in driving 4 hours back and forth each time. That meant we had to eat our Thanksgiving dinner in a restaurant. It’s been a very busy week for us, but I brought my computer thinking I would have plenty of time for blogging at the hotel, but as it turned out I had little time to think or write. That’s why I just disappeared for a few days and missed all of the Black Friday Twittering and Turkey photo Facebook statuses. It feels like I have been gone for weeks and weeks even though it has only been days and days.
Tiny-Small and I spent 7.5 hours in the hospital on Wednesday. You would not believe how popular that little girl is with Veterans. She was getting toys and hand shakes and quarters from all sorts of people. I think she would happily live in the hospital forever. I will write more about that experience soon. I actually have lots of stories to tell you. Four days of travel has given me at least a months worth of blogging material to work with. I mean, I saw that show Honey Boo Boo for the first time so you know what I am talking about!
Anyway, we are celebrating our real Thanksgiving tomorrow so today I am making pie and dressing turkeys and staring at the ingredients for green bean casserole. I just wanted to stop in and say hello and let you know that all is well. Sometime next week I’ll tell you about hotel life, and spilling entire cups of coffee in military cafeterias and basically just surviving through an ordeal surrounded by one stubborn adult (who is not supposed to pick up anything over 25 pounds) and one stubborn toddler (that wanted to spend hours climbing in and out of a crib) all while I watched Ice Loves Coco for the first time. Yep, I did a lot of heavy lifting and used TV watching to reduce stress and block out the noise in our tiny hotel room. There was also some binge chocolate chip cookie eating going on thanks to Quirky Chrissy who sent me my giveaway prize. I’ll tell you all about that later too.
So, in conclusion, we have not celebrated Thanksgiving yet. We lived in a hotel for far too long. We ate artificial potato something and canned gravy on Thanksgiving day and I missed chatting with you guys the entire time! I hope your holiday has been fantastic and that you lived through Black Thursday night and Black Friday without too many horror stories to tell. Now it is time for me to get cooking!
